Welcome to OHAC

The Oregon Health Action Campaign (OHAC) is a 20-year-old organization whose mission is to empower the consumer voice in the development of health systems that give all people access to the care they need, when they need it, from providers of their choice at an affordable cost. OHAC works statewide and in local communities, with organizations and individuals, in coalition and collaboration, to increase the number of people receiving health services as well as improving access for the uninsured, low-income and vulnerable Oregonians.

Mission:

The Oregon Health Action Campaign (OHAC), founded in 1985, is a non-profit organization that has as its purpose the empowerment of the consumer voice in the development of quality, comprehensive and responsive health systems in Oregon. OHAC works to increase the number of people eligible for and receiving health services as well as improving the responsiveness of local and statewide providers for the improvement of the health needs of vulnerable Oregonians. In Oregon there are over 600,000 uninsured citizens: 117,000 of these uninsured are children. A part of OHAC’s advocacy work is assisting the uninsured by helping them get registered for the Oregon Health Plan and continuing to work to increase health access to Oregon’s health coverage programs.

Values:

Oregon, with all of its advantages of living, has two major problems that affect health care for all of its residents. We have had, and are beginning to experience again, a high unemployment rate as well as a state government with ongoing fiscal difficulties. This has resulted in thousands of Oregon residents living without adequate medical coverage. Prescription drug coverage, the inability to pay health insurance premiums as well as an inadequate supporting outreach program to assist citizens to apply for the Oregon Health Plan has pushed OHAC as well as other collaborative health advocacy organizations to work every more strongly for low-income, vulnerable citizens of our state. OHAC believes that health care is a basic right for all people and it is this value that prompts our work.
